Chimney Sweep Cost in Toronto: 2026 Price Guide
· by Diamond Home Services
What a chimney sweep really costs in Toronto and the GTA in 2026, broken down by flue type, access and level of inspection — plus what pushes the price up.
Most Toronto homeowners pay $180 to $320 for a standard chimney sweep and visual inspection. Multi-flue chimneys, tall Victorian stacks in the Annex or Cabbagetown, and heavily creosoted wood-burning fireplaces run higher — usually $320 to $550. Below is how the numbers actually break down across the GTA.
What you are paying for
A proper sweep is not just a brush down the flue. A licensed technician sets up containment inside the room, sweeps the flue and smoke chamber, vacuums the firebox and damper area, then inspects the liner, crown, cap and mortar joints for damage. You should finish the appointment with a written report and photos — if you do not get one, you did not get an inspection.
Toronto and GTA price ranges
- Standard open wood-burning fireplace sweep: $180–$280
- Wood stove or insert (harder access, more creosote): $250–$400
- Second flue on the same visit: $90–$150
- Gas fireplace flue check and service: $160–$260
- Level 2 inspection with camera scan (required on home sale): $300–$550
What pushes the price up
- Glazed creosote. Stage 3 creosote needs chemical treatment or rotary chain cleaning, adding $150–$400.
- Roof access. Steep slopes, three-storey homes and no interior access mean more setup time.
- Age of the chimney. Pre-1960 unlined brick stacks in older Toronto neighbourhoods often need repointing found during the sweep.
- Frequency. Annual sweeps stay cheap. Skipping five years is what turns a $200 job into a $2,000 relining conversation.
How often should a GTA chimney be swept?
Once a year if you burn wood at all, and before any real-estate closing. Gas fireplaces still need an annual flue and venting check — gas produces acidic condensate that eats clay liners quietly.
Is a cheap sweep worth it?
A $99 special usually covers a brush pass and nothing else. Chimney fires and carbon monoxide events almost always trace back to something a real inspection would have flagged: a cracked liner, a blocked cap, a failed crown.
