Overview
How we approach gutter cleaning
We clear eavestroughs by hand rather than blowing debris across the roof and garden, bag it, then flush every downspout to confirm it actually runs. A trough that looks clean and a trough that drains are two different things, and the difference is almost always a packed downspout elbow or an underground extension that has silted up.
While we are up there we photograph the runs and flag what we find: loose spikes and hangers, separated joints, sections pitched the wrong way, rotting fascia, and downspouts discharging within a foot of the foundation. You get the photos whether or not you have us do the repair.
The point of clearing gutters is not the gutters, it is everything downstream of them. A blocked run overflows at the fascia, saturates the soffit, and puts water against the foundation exactly where you least want it. In winter the same blockage holds meltwater at the roof edge where it refreezes, and that is how ice damming starts.
We clear the troughs and the downspouts, flush each run to confirm it actually drains, and check the fasteners and the slope while we are up there. A gutter that has pulled away from the fascia will not carry water no matter how clean it is, and finding that during a cleaning visit is much cheaper than finding it after the ceiling stains.

Late autumn once the leaves are down is the essential visit; a spring clean-out after seed and blossom drop is worth it on treed lots.

Gutter Cleaning questions
How often should eavestroughs be cleaned in {city}?
Twice a year for a {city} property with mature trees — late spring after the seeds and buds drop, and late fall once the leaves are down. Once a year is enough on an open lot with no overhanging canopy.
Is late fall or spring better?
Late fall is the more important of the two. Going into winter with a full trough is what produces ice dams, and a dam pushes meltwater back under the shingles.
Do gutter guards mean I never need this again?
No. Good guards reduce the frequency substantially, but fine grit and shingle granules still accumulate and the guards themselves need clearing. Anyone promising maintenance-free is overselling.
Will you tell me if I need repairs?
Yes, with photos, and without pressure. Loose hangers, separated joints and reverse pitch are the three we find most often, and all three are inexpensive to fix before they take the fascia with them.
