Chimney Sweep in Toronto & the GTA

Full creosote removal and a camera-verified flue inspection, not just a brush and go.

Chimney fires are caused by creosote, and creosote builds up every single season a wood appliance is used. A proper sweep removes it from the full length of the flue, the smoke chamber and the smoke shelf — the areas a quick brush from the top never reaches.

Overview

How we approach chimney sweep

Every sweep we perform includes a camera inspection of the flue liner. This is the difference between 'it looks clean' and knowing whether the liner is cracked, the mortar joints have failed, or an animal has built a nest above the damper. Insurers increasingly ask for documented inspections after a claim, and you get that report in writing.

We work with negative-pressure dust containment and drop sheets. A correctly done sweep leaves no soot in your living room — if a company tells you a mess is unavoidable, they are not using the right equipment.

A sweep without an inspection is half a job. Removing creosote makes the flue safe to use again, but it tells you nothing about whether the liner is intact, whether the crown has cracked, or whether the smoke chamber has voids that let heat reach framing. We camera the flue on every sweep and give you the footage, because a clean chimney with a failed liner is still a chimney you should not light.

Creosote grade determines the method. Light, flaky deposits come off with a rotary brush; hardened glaze does not, and attacking it with a brush alone just polishes it. Glazed creosote is the most dangerous grade and needs chemical treatment or mechanical removal — telling you which you have, and why, is part of the visit.

When to book

Book in late summer or early autumn. Everyone calls after the first cold weekend, and that is the point at which lead times stretch out for weeks.

What drives the price

Flue height and access, the number of flues, creosote grade and whether a Level 2 camera inspection is included all move the price.

  • Whether an animal nest or blockage has to be removed
  • Adding a full Level 2 inspection for a real estate transaction

FAQ

Chimney Sweep questions

How often should a chimney be swept?

Once a year for any wood-burning appliance in regular use, and after every cord of wood burned for heavy users. Gas fireplaces still need an annual inspection even though they produce almost no creosote.

How do I know if my chimney needs sweeping?

If you can see more than about 3 mm of buildup on the flue walls, it needs sweeping. Smoke entering the room, a persistent tar smell, and difficulty getting a fire to draw are all late-stage signs.

Is chimney sweeping messy?

It should not be. We use drop sheets and a HEPA negative-pressure vacuum at the firebox so soot is pulled away from the room rather than into it.

Do you provide a report for my insurance company?

Yes. Every sweep includes a written inspection report with camera stills, which is what insurers and real estate lawyers typically ask for.

Do gas fireplaces need a chimney sweep?

They need an annual inspection rather than a sweep. Gas appliances produce very little creosote but the vent can still be blocked by debris or nesting, and blocked venting on a gas appliance is a carbon monoxide risk.
