How we approach dryer vent cleaning
We clean the vent from both ends — a rotating brush driven the full run from inside plus a vacuum at the termination — because lint packs hardest at elbows and at the exterior hood where most cleaning stops short. Then we measure airflow at the outside vent so you have a number, not an assurance.
A large share of the vents we open are not just dirty, they are wrong: crushed foil transition hose behind the dryer, runs terminating in a garage or soffit instead of outdoors, screened hoods that trap lint by design, or a run so long it can never clear itself. We flag those on the report and can replace the line in rigid metal to code.
Lint does not distribute evenly along a vent run. It packs at elbows, at any sag in a flexible section, and at the exterior hood where airflow slows and the flap restricts it. That is why a consumer brush kit run three feet in from the dryer rarely fixes anything — the blockage is almost always further along, and often at the point you cannot reach.
We treat the run as a system: airflow measured at the termination before and after, the full length brushed and vacuumed from both ends, and the run inspected for the faults that keep coming back. Crushed foil transition hose, a run terminating into a garage, soffit or attic, a screened hood that traps lint by design, and disconnected joints inside a wall cavity all produce a vent that re-blocks within months of any cleaning.

How often should a dryer vent be cleaned?
Once a year for an average household, every six months for a large family, a long vent run, or if you dry bedding and towels frequently.
Can I just clean it myself with a brush kit?
A consumer kit clears the first few feet, which is the part that is rarely the problem. The packing happens at elbows and at the hood, and without an airflow reading you have no way to know whether you actually fixed it.
My vent goes up through the roof — can you still clean it?
Yes. Vertical runs are the ones most likely to be badly blocked because gravity works against them, and they are the ones a homeowner cannot safely reach.
Is foil hose behind the dryer a problem?
Yes. Flexible foil and plastic transitions crush behind the appliance, trap lint in every ridge, and are not permitted as a concealed run. We replace them with rigid or semi-rigid metal.
